Instrumentation Engineering deals with the measurement system design, configuration and automation of systems. This specialization of engineering has two sections ; Electronics & Instrumentation Engineering (E&I), Instrumentation & Controls Engineering (ICE).
Electronics & Instrumentation Engineering (E&I) focus on the principles of designing and the techniques of measuring instruments used in automated systems such as Data Acquisition cards and signal processing for the measurement information. It gives the knowledge to create, and maintain measuring and control devices and systems found in manufacturing plants and process industries.
Instrumentation and control engineering (ICE) focus on the measurement and control of process variables, design and implementation of systems that incorporate them. Process variables include pressure, temperature, humidity, flow, pH, force and speed. Meanwhile, control systems engineering is a discipline that applies control theory to design systems with desired behaviors.
